Linux4one developed in two versions: Full and Light. The version Full contains much of the official Ubuntu software, and includes the interface Gnome Netbook Remix"Developed by the same Canonical. In the version Light, it is present in Desktop Environment XFCE and much less software, in practice only what you need to shipping, chat and writing small documents. Both versions are optimized for reduce to a minimum the time expectation, both as regards the boot, as regards both the normal operation of netbook.

Linux4one is not Ubuntu, or better, is not only Ubuntu. As I said this is the last LTS version (Long Term Support) di Ubuntu, with some modifications. And let's see what:

  • compiled kernel hardware of the Acer Aspire One and similar (vedi eeepc)
  • reduced boot times (with SSD)
  • All hardware working on the first try, understood and SD readers (the left one does not work as Storage Expansion but as a normal card reader) and the led wireless card
  • Minimized writing to disk (log, etc..) onde lasted the preservarne
  • OSD for the special keys
  • Basata su Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS (support for 3 years) with conseguente access to the repository
  • Kernel 2.6.29 (con driver ath5k), Icecat browser, Emesene with support Webchat, Openoffice 3, Network Manager 0.7 and VLC with all codecs
  • Tool, written by the developers of the distribution, by screen rotation and for the choice of the type of GUI (netbook remix o gnome)
  • Tool Umtsmon to monitor connections umts
  • Began tool from the command line dedicated to networking and service discovery, or the discovery of the hosts on the network, and the active services on them. More info on the website http://www.over-look.com/site/

The Acer Aspire One is not a toy, with the right distribution is able to meet many needs of media, and the cost is very low today (210,00EUR about).

Edit: 27/01/2011 - For several months the team Linux4one has officially discontinued the development of new distribution release. Motivation is continuously adapting to the devices even more meager Ubuntu. In the forum is still provided support.
